Elms Golf Course Tournament Benefits Fight Against Breast Cancer

The Elms Golf Course in Sandy Creek recently went pink as it hosted a golf tournament to aid in the fight against breast cancer. This is the 14th tournament organized by the Thursday night league. The tournament raised more than $1,775 in support of Oswego County Opportunities’ Cancer Services Program.

“We are thrilled that the committee that organized the event, which included Judy Vivlemore, Nelda Hager, Clair Wandersee, Jane Henderson, Margaret & Don Miller, Nels Atkinson, Dick Fowler and Bob Byrnes, chose to lend their support to our efforts,” said Cancer Services Coordinator Carolyn Handville. “I extend a gracious thank you to the committee as well as to Edward Jones Investments for their generous contributions. It’s rewarding to know that the work that we do is acknowledged and appreciated.”

OCO’s Cancer Services Program offers free screenings for breast cancer, cervical cancer, and colon cancer to uninsured men and women ages 40-64. These screenings are available free of charge and play an important part in maintaining good health. The program, which partners with over 25 medical providers in Oswego County, receives funding from the New York State Department of Health. For more information, contact Carolyn Handville at 315-592-0830 or visit www.oco.org.

One of Oswego County’s largest employers, OCO provides more than 50 human service programs that touch the lives of approximately 20,000 county residents each year. OCO’s mission is to build partnerships that improve the quality of life and create successful communities. Visit OCO on the web at www.oco.org.
